When do you know that a piece of work is finished? This question is repeated…
I answer: “when I test the conviction that the addition removes strength from the expression, instead of nourishing it. Would the second eye have been necessary, on this face?
I chose only one black circle on the vacuum of this blank paper. But more energy was necessary for me to accommodate the question (and finally to hold back my gesture), than to finish the portrait classically. It is this single eye which possesses the drama and gives this watercolour its name…
